Split Sleeper Berth Announcement from PeopleNet
PeopleNet gave us the following information. If you have questions, contact Jennifer in Safety.
Currently, on the Trimble ELD system, when taking the shorter qualifying portion of a sleeper berth split first (at least 2 hours in Off Duty or Sleeper Berth, and no more than 6 hours and 59 minutes in Sleeper Berth), the hours spent will continue to count against a driver’s daily work shift until the second qualifying portion of the split is concluded. This is done to reflect the current status of the driver and to ensure they are warned of a possible impending violation if they are not eligible for, or do not intend to take, the second portion of the split.
While we understand inspectors and investigators will be trained to assume a second, qualifying split is forthcoming, if the driver is driving past 14 consecutive hours, Trimble believes it’s important the ELD provide alerts and information that helps the driver stay in compliance.
